(If you were here last week, skip a few paragraphs and meet my friend. Otherwise, read on.) Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. I grew up singing those words along with Julie Andrews but now I have my own list of favorite things. To those who read my words and follow my blog, I’m going to do something different and new. The next few weeks, are going to be hectic for me and I am going to be working on some new writing projects so I’m Keep Reading...
A Few of My Favorite Things – And I Think They’ll Become Yours Too
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. I grew up singing those words along with Julie Andrews but now I have my own list of favorite things. To those who read my words and follow my blog, I’m going to do something different and new. The next few weeks, are going to be hectic for me and I am going to be working on some new writing projects so I’m going to step away from blogging for a few weeks. During my time away, I’m going to share a few Keep Reading...
Want to Make a Change in 2020?
Last month, I turned 55 years old. I like 55 better than 54. You see, a year ago I was the heaviest I have ever been. Okay, maybe I was that heavy right before I gave birth to my ten and a half pound baby. Maybe. If you’ve known me the past 30 or 40 years, you know I’ve tried every diet and workout craze. Some of you have joined me on the journey. To the friend who did the Cabbage Diet with me (and you know who you are), I still wonder if our neighbors thought we were nuts grilling steaks in Keep Reading...
What Snowman Noses Taught Me About Holiday Cheer 2.0
When I first married, I started a Santa collection. It didn’t take me long to figure out that there wasn’t a lot of variety when it came to Santas. They were all pretty much wearing red suits trimmed in white fur, were fat with a long beard and twinkling eyes. So I switched my collecting efforts to snowmen - and snowwomen and snow boys and snow girls. I have snowmen made out of square blocks and ice cubes. I have snowmen standing on their heads, roasting marshmallows, and decorating a moose Keep Reading...
Things Are Not Always As They Seem
The last few weeks could be captured by the movie title, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” except without the trains. Or maybe the movie title, “Four Weddings and a Funeral” except there weren’t any weddings but there were two funerals. The past few weeks have been a little nuts around here and this week is ramping up to be another not boring week. At least no dogs ran through wood floor glue this week – yet! (That blog is coming soon – once I determine a positive spin to put on it.) I Keep Reading...
It’s Wednesday But I’m Thinking About Saturday
It’s Wednesday but I’m still thinking about last Saturday. Why last Saturday? Well, last Saturday was the day I watched my brother, Glen, push his wheelchair 13.5 miles to Pikes Peak in Colorado – for the 6thtime. I watched from the driver’s seat of his truck as I followed him for five and a half hours. Five and a half hours of him hitting the rims of his wheels with his palms. Each time he made contact with the wheels, he was a few feet closer to the top of the mountain. The 14,115 foot tall Keep Reading...
Zipping into the School Year
To all the parents sending their kids off for the first time. Whether you are sending them off to pre-school, kindergarten, junior high, high school or college, take a breath. They’ll be okay. You’ve prepared them for this. Let me warn you, the first day your little one straps on a backpack that is almost as big as them and walks into their pre-school classroom is as difficult as moving them into their dorm room 15 years later. As parents, we anticipate each “stage” with trepidation. A few Keep Reading...
Be The One!
This year I was at a conference with about 1200 women and it was the last session on the last day. I was making my way back into the auditorium when I felt someone grab my arm and say, “Excuse me.” I turned around and came face to face with a woman I did not recognize. “You probably don’t remember me,” she said. Her face didn’t give me a hint of who she was. And I felt bad. I scrubbed my brain for a hint. “Two years ago, in the prayer room, you prayed with me.” Still scrubbing my Keep Reading...
Showing Up
This week something popped up on Facebook. I don’t know who the original poster was or even remember who shared the post but I clicked and got sucked into the post - and the comments. Always the comments... The post was titled “Just Show Up”and was about a mom who hated her body but put on a swimsuit so she could be with her kids. The gist of the post was about not worrying about our physical appearance because the kids don’t care. They just want us to be there for them. The gal’s post Keep Reading...
Baby Birds and Finances – AKA Connie Wanted Converse Shoes
Recently, I wrote about preparing our baby birds for leaving the nest and mentioned my husband and I struggled to teach our baby birds about finances. We tried. Some learned better than others. It looks different for each one. I also mentioned all three of our girls are productive members of society. Keep that in mind as you read the following story, please. And look for the Truth at the end. I’ve never met the Jones’ we are striving to keep up with and if I do, I might just trip them – or Keep Reading...
