I went to the paint store today to pick out some paint for my dining room. The first time I picked out paint, I chose poorly ~ so I was choosing again.
I walked up to the display that held those little strips of paint colors and was overwhelmed. I fought back a panic attack. How was I supposed to make a decision with so many choices?
How was I was supposed to pick a paint color from one little strip of color when there were a kazillion choices. And we all know the little chip of a paint sample never looks the same when we paint the wall. Never. Ever.
I was overwhelmed. There were way too many color choices.
We don’t need so many paint choices, do we?
But we are a society that likes choices. Lots of choices.
When we go to a salad bar, we want the salad bar with the most choices. We pick restaurants with lots of choices.
Our grocery stores and bookstores are full of choices. In case you haven’t left the confines of America, let me tell you that it isn’t like that everywhere in the world.
I live in a town without a big mall so whenever there was a need for a special occasion dress – which happened a lot for our family since we have three daughters – we drove two hours to the city with the big malls with lots of choices.
I wonder if, in the pioneer days, when the general store got in a new supply of material and it only gave them three different choices for dresses, did the pioneers complain? Or when the one style of boots arrived, did they complain?
But we like choices. We talk a lot about choices.
ProChoice is talked about a lot. But whose choice is it? The mother’s? The father’s? The baby’s? We talk a lot about choice but we can’t figure out who gets to choose.
School choice. Choose your own doctor. Lifestyle choice.
Lots of talk about choice.
But the most significant choice ever made was the choice Jesus made to stretch his arms out wide to have them nailed to a cross to die for each of us.
And it was a choice. Jesus was a guy who walked on water and raised people from the dead. I’m pretty sure he could’ve said, “Enough of this agony and nonsense!” and climbed down from the cross.
But he chose to hang there and to die for each and every one of us.
Now we have a choice to make. And it is the most important choice you will ever make.
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord,
choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…
But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
But before you choose whom you will serve, read this little truth ~
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
~~~~~~
For God so loved the world that He gave
His one and only son that whoever believes
in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Jesus chose to die so that I might live. I choose Jesus. Will you?
P.S. The paint color on the chip did not look the same on my wall ~ but I’m okay with it. Anything to keep from having to face the wall of paint chip choices!
