Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I didn’t know a lot of people who went on Caribbean cruises but when I moved to the Houston area it seemed like everyone “cruised.” I added “Take Alaskan Cruise” to my bucket list. I suggested to two friends and their husbands that we should cruise to Alaska for our 5thwedding anniversaries. I suggested an anniversary trip because I thought it was more likely to happen then just saying, “Let’s go for no reason.” Everyone was in. Then reality hit. At Keep Reading...
What Does This Look Like? 2.0
Do you know what this is? If you said, “It’s an onion-potato keeper thing my parents/grandparents have under their sink or in their pantry,” you would be right – and wrong. This is what friendship looks like. After high school graduation, I planned to attend a university about 2000 miles away from my home in Idaho. Many of my friends chose to stay nearby for college and most lived at home so my move was out of the ordinary. I was planning to live in an apartment far from home with a Keep Reading...
Brusher of the Month ~ Yep, That Was Me!
After dropping my girls off for school, I turned the corner in my neighborhood and was met with a picture of me. Not a good picture of me. But a blown up, bigger than life picture of me as “Brusher of the Month.” Me. As an awkward teenager. With braces on my teeth! Someone was going to die! How is it that my high school brace face picture ended up – blown up - on a traffic caution barricade at the end of a busy street in a busy neighborhood? Friendship. That is Keep Reading...
Have a Nice One
Whenever I check out at the grocery store or department store or corner gas station and the person hands me my receipt and says, “Have a nice one,” my brain almost explodes. It is only with great restraint that I don’t pipe up and respond with, “Have a nice one what? A nice walk in the rain on the way to my car? A nice dinner? A nice trip and fall? (Which I’ve done on the way out of a store more than once.) A nice day at the dentist? A nice shark attack? A nice hernia? A nice, big glass Keep Reading...
Foul Play
Friends ~ I took a bit of a hiatus from blogging when my dear grandfather became ill a few months ago so that I could turn my focus to my family. We somehow managed to chuckle through the hard days and are grateful that he is hanging out with Jesus now. I hope you will continue to chuckle with me. Oh, and as you read this blog, know that my brother and I laughed hysterically about this. The snow fell all afternoon and continued into the night. The roads were icy and the snow Keep Reading...
Helping Others Shave Their Legs
I spent a lot of summers with my grandparents when I was growing up. I remember my grandmother telling me that she no longer had to shave her legs or armpits! As a thirteen year old who had hair that seemed to grow night and day, I was amazed. What do you mean? She explained that when you get old (now I know she was referring to menopause), your hair doesn’t grow like it does when you are going through puberty. Awesome! I couldn’t wait for that day. I thought God was pretty smart to Keep Reading...
